Weekend Update
Telford 10km, Telford, 11 December
Elinor Kirk (coach: Steve Vernon) just missed out on going top of the Power of 10 10km rankings as she smashed her personal best with a 32.35 winning run. Despite just missing out on Eilish McColgan’s (Liz McColgan-Nuttall) 32.30 time set last weekend, Kirk will be delighted by taking nearly 30 seconds off her old best and winning by well over a minute.
The men’s race was a much tighter affair, with Josh Grace (Mick Woods) eventually wrapping up victory as the first four over the line were separated by just three seconds. Grace, who stopped the clock at 29.21, went almost 90 seconds quicker than he’s ever gone before to hold off Tom Lancashire (Vernon), who ran 29.22, Jake Shelley (David Chalfen) 29.23 and Ieuan Thomas (James Thie) 29.24.

Across the pond Rosie Edwards (Dennis Russell) also did her best to take the 10km ranking top spot as she posted a huge 90 second personal best to cap off a breakthrough year. Crossing the line in 33.02, Edwards moves to sixth on the Power of 10, having set personal bests over every road distance this year.

North Eastern Counties Cross Country Championships, Durham, 10 December
Jonny Taylor (Gordon Surtees) was first to the tape with a hard fought victory in the men’s race over Nick Swinburn (Lindsay Dunn). Just three seconds separated the Morpeth duo at the finish, with the pair a minute ahead of the rest of the field.
Double Olympian Laura Weightman (Steve Cram) swept away the opposition in the women’s race to win by some 80 seconds in a 28 minute race, much longer than she’s used to.

Cardiff Met GPI Christmas Classic, Cardiff, 11 December
There was a new indoor UK record in the Welsh capital, as Cameron Corbishley (Andi Drake), a bronze medallist at the British outdoor Championships over 5000m, recorded the fastest British U20 time ever over 3000m indoors in a clocking of 11:39.75.
Bethan Davies (Andi Drake) joined Corbishley in showing strong form, with the Cardiff/Leeds Met Uni athlete bettering her British record time over 3000m, set back in February at the British indoor championships, to take the tape in a time of 12:35.87, although the time won’t register as a revised record due to the race being mixed gender.
