British Athletics League Division Premiership, Hendon, 4 August

Welsh sprinter Sam Gordon (coach: Matt Elias) was denied a wind legal personal best by a 2.1m/s tailwind, however he did take the win in 10.26, 0.6 seconds quicker than he’s ever gone before.

Tom Somers (Benke Blomkvist) revised his 400m personal best for the second time in 10 days with a superb 46.79 run for second, Sudan’s Sadam Koumi taking the win with Lee Thompson (John Henson) third in 47.20.

There was also a notable 47.93 clocking for 800m man Canaan Solomon (Richard Thurston), who finished fifth. In the field Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson) won the shot with a 19.08m effort, just 16cm shy of his personal best.

Meeting voor Mon, Kessel-Lo, Belgium, 4 August

Young sprinter Kaie Chambers-Brown (Sharon Morris) equalled his personal best with a 10.34 (0.1) winning run, equalling the time he set in the semi-finals at the England U20 Championships. There were also personal bests for Hannah Kelly (Les Hall, 55.99) and Sol Sweeney (Andy Young, 3:42.96) in the 400m and 1500m respectively.

TD Beach to Beacon 10K, Cape Elizabeth, USA, 4 August

Both Callum Hawkins (Robert Hawkins) and Ross Millington (Steve Vernon) returned to action in this infamous 10km road race across the pond, which was won in a highly impressive 27.37 by New Zealand’s Jake Robertson.

Scotland’s Hawkins was seventh in 29.16, having battled with a big chase group, whilst Millington was two places further back in 29.32.

England Athletics U15/U17 Combined Events Championship inc. Home Countries Combined Event Championships, Manchester, 4-5 August

Lucy Turner (Sam Stanislaus) set new personal bests in the 800m and 100m hurdles as she claimed the victory in the women’s senior heptathlon in Manchester. Andrew Murphy (Colin Sinclair) secured the best score in the men’s senior decathlon.

Jessica Hopkins (Steve Mitchell) finished top of the standings in the women’s U17 heptathlon, setting a new personal best in the shot put and high jump. Ella Rush (Michael Baker) also set a new lifetime best in the high jump, as well as the javelin, to claim gold in the U15 event.

There were two personal bests for Pedro Gleadall (Neil Gleadall) as he took home the men’s U17 decathlon title, while Aidan Brindley (Mark Stringer) took the title in the men’s U15 octathlon.

Hercules Wimbledon 3000m Open Graded Meeting, Wimbledon, 1 August

The aptly named Mohamed Ali (Steve Mann) produced the fastest 3,000m time by a British U17 athlete for 46 years and the second fastest ever on Wednesday night in London. The Ealing, Southall and Middlesex athlete ran a staggering 8:15.02 for fifth in the A race, the English National Cross Country champion knocked over 20 seconds off his previous best.

In a mixed race earlier in the evening Emily Hosker-Thornhill (Mick Woods) took a further eight seconds off her personal best set earlier this year, finishing fifth in 9.03.06.

Charnwood AC Open Series, Loughborough, 1 August

Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson) backed up his 19.05m throw at the England Championships with a solid 18.47m effort in Loughborough, whilst pole vaulter Joel Leon Benitez (Robert Phillips) did a rare 100m-long jump double, producing a personal best of 6.50m and a 100m clocking of 11.19 (0.4).

Welsh Athletics Endurance Open, Newport, 1 August

Steve Morris (James Thie) backed up an 800m win the previous night with a second-place finish over 1500m in his native Wales, crossing the line in 3.58.76, only half a second outside his season’s best. This impressive double shows that he is well prepared for the European Championships later this month.

BMC Regional Races, Exeter, 31 July

Steve Morris (James Thie) demonstrated his ability to win races as he took the 800m B race in 1.56.84, just over a second down on his season’s best.
