Indoor Cardiff Met Series, Cardiff, 15 January

David Omoregie (coach: Benke Blomkvist) started 2017 as he means to go on, setting a new personal best of 7.66 over the 60mH to take victory in his home town.

Omoregie was back on track for the 60m flat final, but couldn’t quite get the better of seasoned stalwart Dwain Chambers, the 38 year old prevailing 6.69 to the Omoregie’s 6.72. The youngster had recorded a personal best of 6.71 in the heats.

There was also a very impressive solo run over 1500m for Sarah McDonald (Bud Baldaro), with her front running performance rewarded with a 4.12.73 ranking topping time.

In the rarely run 1000m Tom Marshall (James Thie) posted a quick 2.22.30 time, whilst Steve Morris (Thie) ran a very handy 2.32.56, bettering the European T20 record.

Southern Indoor Championships, Lee Valley, 14-15 January

Eilidh Doyle (Malcolm Arnold) opened her indoor campaign with two winning 400m efforts, the latter 52.75 time smashing the Championship Best Performance. Chasing her home was Hannah Williams, her 54.05 time the fourth fastest ever by a British junior.

Emmanuel Stephens prevailed in the men’s 60m final, having won his heat, quarter and semi-final earlier in the day. His final winning time of 6.69 was just two tenths down on the personal best he set in the quarter-finals. In the women’s equivalent, Sophie Papps (Stewart Challis) twice ran 7.32 but did not run in the final, which was won by Laviai Nielsen (Frank Adams) in 7.43, who ran a personal best of 7.42 in the semi-final.

There was also a phenomenal run over 800m by sixteen year old Isabelle Boffey (Douglas Stone) who stopped the clock at 2.07.89.

Midland Counties Open Series, Birmingham, 14 January

Kyle de Escofet (Andy Paul) started his season with a bang, clocking 6.64 over 60m to equal the UK lead.

Texas A&M Team Invitational, College Station, Texas, USA, 13-14 January

George Caddick (Clyde Hart) went straight to the top of the Power of 10 400m rankings with an impressive opener of 47.01 to take victory, before backing it up with a 46.30 relay split. Also part of that Baylor 4x400m quartet was Zak Curran who split 47.55, having won the 800m in 1.50.47 earlier in the day.

Arkansas Invitational, Fayetteville Arkansas, USA, 13 January

Competing for the first time since May last year, Roy Ejiakuekwu (Blomkvist) was just outside his 60m personal best with a 6.76 performance at his home meeting in Arkansas. The time puts him fourth on the Power of 10 at this early point in the year.

NAU Friday Night Duals, Flagstaff, Arizona, USA, 13 January

Marilyn Okoro (Johnny Gray) showed some promising form, running 1.26.72 for the rarely run 600m distance, getting the better of training partner Rosie Chamberlain who ran a personal best of 1.29.57.

Commodore Invitational, Nashville Tennessee, USA, 13-14 January

Tonbridge’s Robbie Farnham-Rose (Mark Hookway) posted an outright 3000m personal best of 8.03.68 to take victory in this early season invitational race and go sixth on the Power of 10 behind a string of performances in Sheffield last weekend.

Ooredoo 10km, Doha, Qatar, 13 January

Eilish McColgan (Liz McColgan) started 2017 where she left off in 2016, winning a 10km road race and again revising her personal best. After training in Doha for the last three weeks the Olympic 5,000m finalist took over 30 seconds off her personal best with a 31.56 performance, taking her straight to the top of the Power of 10 rankings.

Manchester Area Cross Country League, University Playing Fields, Manchester, 14th January

In a three way tussle in the senior men’s race, Jack Morris (David Turnbull) got the better of Chris Farrell and Stockport teammate Andrew Davies (Steve Vernon), to show he’s in good form ahead of the forthcoming championship races.
