Weekend Update
CrossCup de la Province de Liège, Belgium, 22 January
Andy Vernon (coach: Nic Bideau) continued his promising start to 2017 with a victory in Belgium, triumphing over a strong European field. First across the line in 26.54 over the 9km course, Vernon was some 13 seconds clear of runner-up Souffiane Bouchiki, with European U23 Cross Country champion Isaac Kimeli third.

Cross Internacional Juan Muguerza, Elgoibar, Spain, 22 January
Andorra based Olympian Jess Martin (nee Andrews) was the pick of the Brits in action in Spain on Sunday, as she finished fifth in this IAAF Permit Race. Despite a strong run the 10,000m specialist was still a minute down on winner Senbere Teferi of Ethiopia. Following Andrews closely were the in-form Kate Maltby (Christopher Frapwell), Lauren Deadman (Bill Foster) and Rachel Felton (Frapwell) who were sixth, seventh and eighth.
In the men’s race Ross Millington (Steve Vernon) had his best run of the winter to finish tenth in a loaded field, with young Patrick Dever (Andy Bibby) the next best Brit in 21st.

New Balance Games, New York, USA, 21 January
Sarah McDonald made the trip across the pond worthwhile as she ran 4:32.06 for the mile, the tenth fastest ever by a Brit indoors.

Meeting Elite en salle de Nantes, France, 21 January
Over in France, Kyle de Escofet (Andy Paul) equalled his personal best and UK ranking topping run from earlier this month, his 6.61 time again good for victory. There was also a very solid 7.81 run over the 60mH by Khai Riley-La Borde (Ray Gibbins), whilst Bethan Partridge (Fuzz Caan) set a new lifetime best with a 1.88m clearance in the high jump.

Meeting National en salle d’Hirson, France, 21 January
Also high jumping in France were Allan Smith (Bryan Roy) and Chris Baker (Sharon Heveran) who both set season’s bests of 2.25m and 2.21 for second and sixth respectively.

Vault Manchester, Sportcity, 21 January
In a thrilling high quality pole vault competition in Manchester, Adam Hague (Trevor Fox) took the spoils with a 5.41m clearance, with Luke Cutts (Fox), Jax Thoirs (Pat Licari), Max Eaves (Richard Humby) and Daniel Gardner (Egryn Jones) all over 5.31m.

Akron / Kent St. Dual, Akron, Ohio, USA, 20 January
In just her second meet since moving to Akron University in USA, former GB junior international pole vaulter Lucy Bryan (Alan Richardson) cleared 4.30m for the win, her best mark in three years.
