ERRA Men’s 12 Stage and Women’s 6 Stage Road Relay Championships 2022, Sutton Coldfield, 9 April

Tonbridge and Salford Harriers sealed the senior men’s and women’s titles at the Road Relay championships this weekend.

Tonbridge finished 13 seconds ahead of Highgate Harriers to claim the men’s 12 stage title, with Bedford and County taking third position overall.

Nick Goolab (Craig Winrow, Belgrave) was the fastest athlete over the long leg, clocking a time of 25:23 with Alexander Leprêtre (Highgate) next with 25:25. As for the short leg, Thomas Keen (Mark Vile, Cambridge and Coleridge) was the quickest overall in a time of 15:10, over nine seconds faster than Arlo Ludewick (Herne Hill) who clocked 15:19.

In the women’s six-stage, Salford Harriers took a convincing victory as they won by nearly four minutes ahead of Highgate Harriers, with Basingstoke and Mid Hants in third.

Brutus Hamilton Invitational, Berkeley, CA, USA, 9 April

Anna Purchase (Rob Careless) moved the second on the UK all-time list in the women’s hammer throw as she became only the second British woman to throw over 70 metres in the event.

The Notts athlete achieved the outstanding mark at the competition in California, her longest throw measuring at 70.63m. It was a big improvement as her previous best stood at 67.77m which she threw in Stanford last week.

It continues a fantastic period for British women’s hammer throwing after Katie Head and Jess Mayho have achieved 69m marks in the last eight months.
