Weekend Update
Nitro Athletics, Melbourne, Australia, 9 & 12 February
England finished the inaugural Nitro Athletics Melbourne in fourth place overall as the Bolt All Stars team took victory.
In the Final Round, there were victories for Erin McBride (Robert Roberts) and James Arnott (Ryan Freckleton) in the ambulatory 100 metres races, clocking big personal bests of 12.87 (-0.6m/s) and 11.01.(0.3m/s) respectively. There were also strong performances in the 4x100m and mixed 2000m sprint medley relays, with the England team finishing in second place.
The standout performance from the second round match on Thursday night was a win for the 4x400m mixed relay team, Hannah Williams (Colin Gaynor), Christine Ohurougu (Lloyd Cowan), Conrad Williams (Cowan) and Theo Campbell (James Hillier) combining to stop the clock at 3.20.22 to edge out the Australian team in the final few strides.

NYRR Millrose Games, New York, USA, 11 February
Andrew Butchart (Derek Easton) was beaten for the first time in 2017 as he finished third in a high quality two mile field in New York. With two laps to go the in-form Scot was leading, but slipped to third as they passed 3,000m in 7.40. In the end he couldn’t quite match Ben True and Ryan Hill’s closing speed, finishing third in 8.12.63 just over a second behind the winner. That run bags Butchart his second Scottish indoor record in less than a month, breaking Ian Stewart’s 44 year old mark.
Also in action was Lynsey Sharp, and like her fellow Scot she was also third, just running out of steam in the final 200m of the women’s 800m, but still crossing the line in big season’s best of 2.01.14.

Tyson Invitational, Fayetteville, USA, 11 February
Former European Junior 200m champion Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (Dennis Shaver) was in action in Arkansas, and in winning his section of the invitational 200m in 20.49 posted the fastest time by a Briton indoors for 19 years.

Iowa State Classic, Ames, USA, 10-11 February
Marc Scott (Steve Gulley) set an impressive personal best of 7.47.57 to win the 3,000m and book his spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Groet uit Schoorl 10K, Schoorl , The Netherlands, 12 February
Ross Millington and Jonny Mellor (both Steve Vernon) finished second and third on a snowy day in The Netherlands, Millington not quite able to get the better of Adbi Nayeeye in a sprint finish. None the less, their times of 28.46 and 28.55 put them first and second on the Power of 10 10km rankings and is Millington’s fastest ever mark on the road.

Campertown Classic, Kingston, Jamaica, 11 February
Zharnel Hughes (Glen Mills) ensured he kicked off his season in style as he broke away for victory over 400m in Kingston with a lifetime best clocking of 46.58, a time which was good enough to see a field which included Jamaica’s Yohan Blake.
Copernicus Cup, Torun, Poland, 10 February
Chijindu Ujah (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo) finished second in this IAAF World Tour event in Poland in a season’s best of 6.56, beaten by Ronnie Baker of the USA who set an impressive 6.46 world lead. In fifth there was a personal best of 6.62 for Reece Prescod (Tawiah-Dodoo), whilst Imani Lansiquot (Tawiah-Dodoo) also set a personal best of 7.30 in the heats of the women’s 60m.

Don Kirby Invitational, Albuquerque, USA, 10 February
2015 European Junior Championship silver medallist Jacob Fincham-Dukes (Zivile Pukstiene) looked back to his best and better, as he produced a 7.86m personal best for second place.

Meeting Elite en salle de l’Eure, Val de Reuil, France, 6 February
Competing over the rarely run indoor 400mH, Jack Green (Jane Plews) clocked an impressive 50.64 time to finish second behind Jamaican Isa Phillips.
In the more commonly run 60m there was also a second place for Richard Kilty (Michael Khmel), who crossed the line in 6.60, with Dwain Chambers fourth in 6.65.
