BUCS Indoor Championships, Sheffield, 17-19 February

Hannah Brier (coach: Steve Fudge) was in fine form as she took the BUCS 60m title in a Championship Best Performance (CBP) equalling 7.31, a new personal best that puts her fourth on the Power of 10 rankings. Adam Thomas (Leon Baptiste) took the men’s title in 6.75, meaning Loughborough University took both 60m titles before going on to win the team title.

Brunel’s Finette Agyapong (Coral Nourrice) was also in record breaking form as she lowered the 200m CBP to 23.68 to take gold.

The highlight of the final day of action was the men’s 400m, where Cameron Chalmers (James Hillier) broke the CBP with a 46.91 personal best, pushed all the way by 200m specialist Tom Somers (Benke Blomkvist) who also clocked a personal best of 47.20.

In the men’s pole vault Charlie Myers (Chris Boundy) added 8cm to the personal best he set at last weekend’s British Athletics Indoor Team Trials to win gold with a 5.40m clearance, getting the better of Adam Hague (Trevor Fox) who managed a best of 5.30m. Youcef Zatat continued his good form, winning the shot put in 17.58m.

Surrey County Indoor Championships, Carshalton, 19 February

Jade Ive (Allan Williams) followed up her British Indoor Team Trials victory with a 1cm personal best, clearing 4.36m to take victory. She extends her position at the top of the Power of 10 rankings.

Birmingham Games, Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham, 19 February

Paralympic T38 100m champion Sophie Hahn (Joe McDonnell) opened her 2017 campaign with a win over 200m – her first ever over the distance indoors.

Seville Marathon, Spain, 19 February

Lily Partridge made a fantastic start to her marathon career as she finished fourth in Seville in a 2017 Power of Ten topping time of 2.32.10. Running with the leading group until a bad patch at around 25km, Partridge rallied to finish strongly and go well inside the London 2017 World Championships qualifying mark.

Armagh International Road Races, Armagh, Northern Ireland, 16 February

Laura Weightman (Steve Cram) took eight seconds off Mary Cullen’s course record to win the women’s 3km in an impressive 8.59. The two time Olympian over 1500m was intent on making it a true run race, breaking clear with just over 1km to go to take a decisive victory. Rosie Clarke (Dave Harmer) did chase hard though, her 9.02 time also inside the old course record. Third place went to Jess Judd (Mick Judd), who was also part of the winning England team, whilst Sarah Inglis (John Lees) of Scotland was fourth, the pair running 9.10 and 9.12 respectively.

In the men’s 5km, Graham Rush made an early run for home; however he was reeled in by the chase group in the home-straight. With 100m to go American Brandon Doughty looked as if he had the race won, but a late charge from Ben Connor (Spencer Duval) saw him snatch victory on the line, his impressive 13.55 winning time agonisingly one second short of the men’s course record.

Doughty took second in the same time, whilst Dewi Griffiths (Kevin Evans) also dipped under 14 minutes with a 13.58 time. An incredible 77 athletes finished inside 15 minutes.

AIT Grand Prix, Athlone, Ireland, 15 February

Kyle Langford (George Harrison) stole the headlines in Athlone as he produced a record breaking run over 600m. Having only finished fifth over 800m at the British Indoor Team Trials last weekend, Langford bounced back with vengeance, taking victory and in doing so the British indoor 600m record with a time of 1.16.10.

Also on form in the middle-distance races was Sarah McDonald (Bud Baldaro), the recently crowned British Indoor 1500m champion securing the necessary qualifying time for the European Indoor Championships, ensuring automatic selection, with a 4.11.62 time in third place. In the men’s mile Tom Marshall (James Thie) went sub four minutes for the first time, his 3.59.84 clocking good for third.

In the field, British Indoor champion Lorraine Ugen (Shawn Jackson) backed up her victory in Sheffield with a 6.54m winning mark.

Seb Rodger (Stephen King) produced a season’s best of 46.57 to win the men’s 400m, whilst Finette Agyapong (Coral Nourrice) was fourth in the women’s 60m in a personal best of 7.42.
