Weekend Update
Gavardomeeting Citta’ di Gavardo, Italy, 4 June
Reece Prescod (coach: Jonas Dodoo) won a thrilling men’s 100m in 10.11 (0.5m/s), inside the London 2017 qualifying standard, to get the better of Richard Kilty and Ojie Edoburun (Dodoo) who were third and fourth in 10.18 and 10.20 respectively.
Kilty returned to the track to place third once more, this time over 200m where he posted a 20.51 (1.4) season’s best, but couldn’t stop Danny Talbot (Benke Blomkvist) racing clear to win in 20.31, inside the London 2017 time. In the women’s 100m Daryll Neita (Dodoo) took the win in 11.39 (-0.2), with Imani Lansiquot (Dodoo) third, having run a season’s best of 11.35 (0.7) in her heat.
Greg Rutherford (Dan Pfaff) was also in action, following his win on the streets of Manchester with another victory as a modest 7.95m (1.1) best effort saw him claim the win .

Adidas Boost Boston Games, Boston, USA, 2-4 June
Chris O’Hare (Terrance Mahon) scored a fine victory in Boston where he lives, taking the men’s 1500m in 3.39.31 continuing the good form that saw him run a 3.34.35 personal best just last week. Jake Wightman (Geoff Wightman) made the trip across the Atlantic worthwhile as he ran an 800m personal best of 1.46.07 in fifth, whilst Lynsey Sharp (Mahon) improved her season’s best to 2.01.13 in the women’s race.
Shara Proctor (Rana Reider) was the star of the show in field, as she won the long jump, which was held in one of the cities squares, with a 6.73m season’s best. In the sprint hurdles Tiffany Porter twice revised her season’s best, the latter 12.87 (0.6) good for fifth in the final. In the sprints Desiree Henry (Reider) was the leading Brit, third in 100m in 11.41 (0.2), with Zharnel Hughes (Patrick Dawson) fifth in the 200m in 20.77 (0.6). Last but not least, Laviai Nielsen (Frank Adams) and Christine Ohuruogu (Lloyd Cowan) were seventh and eighth in the 400 in 53.77 and 53.95 respectively.

Int. Sparkassen Hammerwurfmeeting, Fränkisch-Crumbach, Germany, 4 June
Chris Bennett (Mick Jones) marked himself as the king of Frankish after taking victory for the third consecutive year, thanks to a winning throw of 75.72m, a big season’s best. This German meet is always popular with hammer community, Mark Dry also making the trip and finishing eighth in 70.26m.

Meeting Pro Athlé de Marseille, Marseille, France, 3 June
In the south of France Rabah Yousef (Carol Williams) made the most of the warm conditions to clock a season’s best of 45.76, good for second in the men’s 400m. In the sprints James Dasaolu (Lloyd Cowan) equalled the London 2017 qualifying standard as he finished third in 10.12 (0.3), which was also a season’s best. In the women’s race Asha Philip (Steve Fudge) was also third, her 11.43 (-0.6) also a 2017 best.
In the field Dan Bramble (Frank Attoh) leaped to 8.00 (0.0), good for second place, whilst Perri Shakes-Drayton (Chris Zah) continued her comeback on the track with sixth in the women’s 400m, clocking 53.49.

Putbos Memorial Leon Buyle, Oordegem-Lede, Belgium, 3 June
In typically calm conditions in the Belgian town on Oordegem, a trio of Brits posted 1.47 times in the men’s 800m as they finished third, fourth and fifth. Leading the way was Glasgow based James Bowness (William Parker) who crossed the line in 1.47.43, just sixth hundredths ahead of Jamie Webb (Rob Denmark), his run a season’s best. Youngster Dan Rowden (Richard Thurston) was just two hundredths behind Webb, his time 1.47.51.

BWAA Grand Prix, Stoke Mandeville – 3 June
The ever-improving Kylie Grimes (Phil Peat) extended her F51 club throw best to 19.87m. That was a significant improvement by the Surrey-based athlete whose previous best was 19.65m. After finishing fourth at the Paralympic Games last September, the Briton is determined more than ever to reach the podium at the World Para Athletics championships in London next month, and this huge throw will give her a confidence boost in the final weeks ahead.
Gateshead Tyne Cup, Gateshead – 3 June
With just over a month until the World Championships arrive in London, six-time Paralympic medallist Stephen Miller (Ros Miller) is rounding into good shape as he threw a season’s best of 32.26m in the north east. It was his best of 2017 by some way, after his only previous plus 30 metre throw of the season came in York last week.
XXXI Gran Premio Cantones de La Coruña 201, IAAF Race Walking Challenge, 3rd June, La Coruña Spain
Following his pre-selection for the IAAF World Championships this summer, Dominic King (George Nibre) showed excellent form over 20km in the IAAF Race Walking Challenge as he lowered his 13 year-old personal best from 87.52 to 87.20, a time which moves him to 4th in the 2017 British Rankings and 24th on the all-time list. Guy Thomas (Martin Rush) also set a new personal best of 88.38 to move to 5th on the UK 2017 rankings. Daniel King (George Nibre) produce his fastest 20km since 2013, clocking 89.10.

European Athletics Outdoor Classic Meeting, Bydgoszcz, Poland, 2 June
David King (James Hillier) finally got the personal best and London 2017 qualifying standard he has been chasing, a fine 13.48 (1.2) time saw him finish runner-up in Poland. In the 100m, Samuel Osewa (Leon Baptiste) was another athlete revising his lifetime best, a brilliant third place finish seeing him across the line in 10.21 (1.6) shaving eight hundredths off his previous best set at the Loughborough International two weeks ago. Elsewhere Jack Green and Seb Rodger (Stephen King) enjoyed a great battle in the 400mH, the pair separated by just 0.11 of a second as they finished second and third in 49.75 and 49.86 respectively.

European Athletics Outdoor Classic Meeting, Andujar, Spain, 2 June
Andrew Osagie (Mark Rowland) showed he is getting back to something like his best form with a third place finish in Spain, posting a season’s best time, in fact his quickest for three years, of 1.45.75. Further back Michael Rimmer (Jon Bigg) was eight in 1.46.89. In the women’s 5000m Emelia Gorecka (Chris Thompson) struggled with the heat, finishing eleventh in 16.02.92. Charlotte Arter (James Thie) was two places further back with a time of 16.20.84.

Nijmegen Global Athletics, Nijmegen, The Netherlands, 2 June
Robbie Fitzgibbon (Jon Bigg) produced a massive 3.36.97 personal best to finish fourth in a strong international field in Nijmegen, taking over two seconds off his old best. That time was well inside the European U23 Championships qualifying standard and not far off the London 2017 mark. There was also a personal best of 3.38.35 for Adam Clarke (Geoff Watkin) in ninth, whilst Tom Lancashire was one place further back in 3.38.85. In the 5,000m there were personal bests of 13.42.89 and 13.48.74 for Ben Connor and Andrew Heyes (both Steve Vernon) in second and third.

MarkOn Aarhus Nordic Challenge, Aarhus, Denmark, 2 June
Kyle de Escofet (Andy Paul) delivered the best British performance out in Scandinavia on Friday night, winning the men’s 100m in a personal best of 10.20 (2.0), with European U23 200m medallist Leon Reid (James Hillier) chasing him home in 10.33, also a lifetime best. In the 400mH there was victory in the men’s race for Tom Burton (Nick Dakin) in 50.36, whilst training partner Jess Turner (Dakin) took second in the women’s equivalent in 57.07.

Golden Roof Challenge, Innsbruck, Austria, 2 June
Luke Cutts (Trevor Fox) was invited to the iconic golden roof street meet in Austria and was just 3cm down on his season’s best as his 5.40m effort earned him victory.

BMC Regional Races, Scotstoun – 2 June
Kristian Jones fine-tuned preparations for the European 10,000m Cup next weekend with a win over 3000m at the event in Scotland. His winning time was 8:10.71 as he beat the field by a considerable margin.
In the ‘B’ race, Marathoner Derek Rae (Ron Morrison) set a 3000m personal best after swapping the roads for the track. In his first ever 3000m race, he crossed the line in 9:19.98.

Meeting de Montreuil, Montreuil, France, 1 June
Shelayna Oskan-Clarke (Jon Bigg) took victory in France, winning the 800m in 2.00.73, edging out Kenyan Nelly Jeprosgei, with Alex Bell (Aaron Thomas) fifth in 2.02.88. Jazmin Sawyers (Kelly Sotherton) was second in the long jump with a 6.48m effort, whilst Nick Miller (Tore Gustafsson) was fourth in the hammer with a best of 75.10m.
Watford Open Graded Meeting, Watford, 31 May
Following her second place finish at the British 10,000m Championships at Highgate 10 days earlier, Steph Twell (Mick Woods) showed that she is also in great form over the shorter distances with a superb 1500m-3000m double. Both in mixed races, the AFD star clocked 4.07.39 and 9.00.04 within two hours of each other. There was also a fine eight second 1500m personal best of 4.15.85 for U20 athlete Amelia Quirk (Beverley Kitching) in the GB cross country international’s first track race of the year.

BMC Regional Races, Brighton, 31 May
Remarkably all seven athletes in the men’s 800m A race broke 1.50 at this midweek open meeting, with Kyle Langford (Jon Bigg) leading the way in 1.47.57, edging out training partner Elliot Giles (Bigg) by just over a tenth of a second. Spencer Thomas (Bigg) was third in 1.48.35 followed by Sean Molloy (Mark Hookway) who clocked 1.48.66, both season’s bests.
