Leeds Abbey Dash 10k, 22 November

THE men’s event was won by Jonny Mellor (Liverpool) in a time of 29:14 which was well inside his previous pb of 29:48 and this takes him to sixth on the Pof10 rankings. He was well clear of surprise runner-up Patrick Martin (Sunderland) who recorded a life-time best of 29:53, an amazing 57 seconds better than ever before. The women’s race was won by Rebecca Robinson (Kendal) in 33:16 which was a pb and moves her to seventh on the Pof10 rankings. Katie Ingram (Horwich) took the runners-up spot in a time of 34:12.

British Milers’ Club Cross Country Classic, Bristol, 22 November

THERE were many age group races held at the Bristol venue and the following were the highlights. Tom Russell (Bristol & West) was a surprise winner of the senior men’s race overcoming the challenge of Ben Tickner (Wells). Susie Hignett (Bournemouth) took the senior women’s race from Kate Goodhead (Bristol & West) with Claire Hallissey (Bristol & West) taking the third spot. The U17 men’s race was won by Tom Curr (Stroud) from Tom Purcell (unattached) and in the U17 women’s race was won by Melissa Courtney (Poole) from Amber Watson (Stroud). The U15 boy’s race was won by Hobie Martin (Newquay & Par) with Luke Jacobs (Bristol & West) taking the runners-up spot. The U15 girl’s race saw Loren Bleaken (Team Bath) take the victory from Miranda Sadler (Bristol & West). In the U13 races, the boy’s event was won by Oscar Holdsworth (Truro Schools) from Alfie Kilgour (Team Bath) while in the girl’s event, Elisabeth Hood (Poole) was first home ahead of Daniella Whiting (Team Bath).

 

Northern Athletics Indoor Open Meeting, Sheffield, 21 November

IN the first open meeting of the season, Luke Cutts opened his account with a 5.30m clearance in the pole vault.

 

NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, Evansville IN, USA, 21 Nov 09

Tina Muir (Bedford & County U23) running for Ferris State University finished in 12th place in the women’s 6km race in a time of 21:11.0. In the men’s 10km race Luke Cragg (Mansfield) running for Adams State University finished in 11th place in 31:38.2 just ahead of Iain Donnan (Lothian) from Western State College who finished in 12th place in 31:41.7 and Glen Watts (Shaftesbury Barnet U23) also from Western State College finished in 63rd place with a time of 33:00.9.
