This year’s Müller Anniversary Games will incorporate the IPC Grand Prix Final on the same day for the very first time, with the biggest names in para-athletics competing in London prior to the IAAF Diamond League action getting underway.

The men’s T42 200m looks set to be one of the stand out events of the Grand Prix, as current Paralympic, world, and European champion Richard Whitehead (coach: Keith Antoine) looks to continue his stretch of fine form over the distance heading into September’s Paralympic Games in Rio.

Last year Whitehead set the world record on his way to world gold in Doha with a 24.10 clocking, whilst the 39 year old also added a European title to his list of accolades earlier this year, bettering the silver from 2014’s championships with gold in Grosseto.

Looking to chase down the formidable Whitehead in London will be compatriot David Henson (Roger Keller), winner of the 200m at the Invictus Games in 2014 and 2016.

In the time since, Henson has pulled on a British vest at two major international competitions, finishing seventh in the final of Doha’s World Championships last year before winning silver in earlier Grosseto behind his compatriot and mentor Whitehead. Henson will be one to watch this weekend after running 24.71 in Arizona, a time which sees him third quickest in the world this year.

Joining the British pair is an all-together unique athlete, as 14 year-old Ntando Mahlangu joins the 200m field having set the South Africa youth circuit alight. Primarily a 400m runner, Mahlangu currently holds the T42 400m world record having clocked 53.19 in March this year.

Also competing will be Atsushi Yamamoto (JPN), a F42/44 long jump silver medallist at 2008’s Paralympic Games in Beijing, and Regas Woods (USA), 2014 national champion over 100m and 200m.

The IPC Grand Prix final gets underway from 12pm, so make sure you’re there to watch the T42 200m and some of the world’s biggest para athletes go head-to-head at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
