Williams And Starkey Elected To Uk Members Council

16 December 2019

At Friday’s Annual General Meeting, the UK Members Council (UKMC) announced the appointment of two new representatives.

Arwel Williams, who was voted in as the Officials representative, has been involved in athletics for over 30 years and brings a breadth of experience to the Council. Alongside his selection as an official at every major championship staged in the UK since the 2012 Olympic Games, Williams has also organised and managed the prestigious British Athletics Cross Challenge event incorporating the European Cross Country Championships trials in Liverpool for the past six years. He also chairs the UKA Endurance Education Training sub-group.

Julian Starkey has been elected as the England Clubs representative. He is currently the Chair of Bracknell Athletics club in Berkshire and sees the delivery of athletics at all levels as a starter on the national officials list, and as a competition provider through the Youth Development League (YDL) and the county association.

Jason Gardener, President of UK Athletics, said:

“I welcome both Arwel and Julian to the UK Members Council. They both bring valuable experience and insight to the Council having both served in the sport for several years in a number of different roles. I look forward to working with them both during their time in their respective posts.

“I would like to add my thanks to Wendy Haxell and Mike Harris for their service on the UKMC during their terms on the Council. They have both served in the sport for several years and during that time, their dedication and commitment have been outstanding, so on behalf of UK Athletics and the UK Members Council, I wish them all the best for the future.”
