WILLIAMS WITHDRAWS FROM EURO JUNIORS

20 July 2009

Double World Youth champion Jodie Williams (Herts Phoenix) has withdrawn from the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Junior Championships taking place in Novi Sad, Serbia 23-26 July.

The 100m and 200m gold medallist was due to join the team later this week to take part in the 4x100m relay, but has chosen to withdraw to ensure recovery from a tight hamstring. It is expected that Williams will be in a position to compete again in August.

Aviva GB U20 team leader Alison Wyeth said:

“We have been in communication with Jodie, her family and her coach Mike McFarlane and fully support the decision she has made to safeguard her future fitness.

“I’m certain Jodie will figure prominently in future Great Britain Junior and Senior teams, and look forward to seeing her competing again soon”.
