Women's Coaching Conference 2011

14 October 2011

Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2009 and last year’s Conference – the first to be delivered by UKA’s Women in Coaching Advisory Group (WCAG) – the 2011 Women’s Coaching Conference will be held on Saturday 5 November at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, and will include an evening meal for all participants.

In an alternative approach to previous years, the invited speakers, who come from a variety of fields, have been specifically selected to reflect the vision of “Inspire, Reflect, Act” in a bid to inspire female coaches to help the sport progress and engage in coach education and development.

Biz Price, Head Coach and Performance Director of British Synchronised Swimming, will deliver the opening keynote.

“I saw Biz present at the recent European Women and Sport Conference in London and she was truly inspiring,” said Vicky Huyton, a member of the WCAG. “No matter what level of understanding the delegates have of coaching, they will definitely pick up some tips and ideas from Biz to support their coaching development.”

Other speakers include:

  • Jane Booth (Coaching Manager at the PGA) on: “Understanding change management and why it is important for sport.”
  • Derek Evely (UKA Centre Director at Loughborough) on: “Advantages of a holistic approach to youth development.”
  • Traci Edwards (Club Coach at Harborough AC) on: “Implementing the multi event approach with developing athletes, a practical discussion.”
  • Mark Bawden (National Lead Performance Psychologist – EIS) and Sarah Cecil (UKA Sports Performance Psychologist) on: “Improving coach and athlete relationships through an understanding of personal style.”

There will also be networking opportunities for coaches throughout the day and at the post event dinner, which will be delivered in addition to lunch, for delegates.

This year UKA are pleased to announce that the conference will be free to the first 150 female coaches that register.

In addition, all attendees will be in with a chance of winning one of five £350 vouchers to be used towards Continuing Personal Development activity, e.g. a coaching course, up to the value of £350.
