Five athletes who will be chasing success at the UK Challenge Final at Crystal Palace on Saturday 25 August helped Woodford Green with Essex Ladies to clinch the men’s division of the British League Jubilee Cup Final at Bedford on Saturday 18 August,

Emeka Udechuku, who heads the chase for the major Challenge prizes this summer, won the discus with a 56.38m throw; Andy Frost maintained his domination of the hammer with a winning throw of 69.12m, Graham Hedman sped to 400m victory in 47.21; Tim Abeyie succeeded in the 200m in 21.36 seconds, a tenth ahead of his closest Challenge rival Luke Fagan (Enfield and Haringey); and Tosin Oke triple jumped to defeat Challenge leader Julian Golley, who managed a best on the day of 15.88m.

Nick Smith (Shaftesbury Barnet), second in the Challenge 100m standings, won the short sprint in 10.63 seconds, two-hundredths ahead of Abeyie, to further whet the appetite for next weekend’s confrontations.

In the Women’s Cup Final, Zoe Derham (Birchfield Harriers) maintained her domination as the leading female points scorer in the Challenge by winning the hammer with a throw of 61.83m, 82cm ahead of Shirley Webb (Trafford AC).

Sarah Claxton (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) ran herself into a place in the UK Challenge 100m hurdles final with a victory in 13.6 seconds, a tenth ahead of Gemma Bennett (Shaftesbury Barnet).

Junior Anike Shand Whittingham (Blackheath and Bromley) won the 100m in 11.87 seconds, equalling her second-fastest time in the UK Challenge series.

Nadia Williams (Shaftesbury Barnet) maintained her domination of the triple jumpers, leaping 12.89m to defeat Gillian Kerr (Edinburgh AC) by 17cm.
