WORLD CHAMP PHILLIPS FAVOURITE FOR 100M AT SUPER8

Reigning world, and former Olympic long jump champion Dwight Phillips is set to thrill Glasgow’s sports fans when he lines up at this year’s Super8 on Wednesday 7 July.

Phillips, who will help mark the reopening of the Scotstoun stadium as part of a stellar field, will contest the 100m and with a world class PB of 10.06 lines up as pre race favourite.

The top USA athlete, who will also compete at the Aviva British Grand Prix in Gateshead on 10 July, won World Indoor gold in Birmingham on his first appearance in the UK, back in 2003 and has since clocked up seven victories on UK soil including wins at Scotsoun in 2003 and 2005.

Thrilled at being involved with the innovative Super8 competition, he said:“In a year where there isn’t a major global championship taking place, as an athlete you are looking for great competition and opportunities to compete in front of enthusiastic crowds.

“The Glasgow public are great at supporting athletics and I last competed in the city back in 2005. It’ll be amazing to see how they’ve revamped the stadium and I’m hoping they’ll give me a great welcome back!”

Top athletes already confirmed for the competition include World Indoor 60m hurdles champion Lolo Jones, World 800m bronze medallist Jenny Meadows, Olympic 400m hurdles bronze medallist Tasha Danvers and World, European and Commonwealth medallist Lee McConnell.

Tickets cost £5 For adults, £1 for concessions and £8 For a family ticket of 2 adults and 2 children.
