WORLD CHAMPION LOLO JONES COMMITS TO SUPER8

26 May 2010

USA’s World Indoor Hurdles Champion Lolo Jones is the first international athlete to confirm she will take part in this year’s Super8 at Scotstoun, Glasgow on Wednesday 7 July.

The charismatic star will return to Glasgow to wow crowds just six months after an appearance at the Aviva International Match at Kelvin Hall where she faced World Heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis in the 60m hurdles.

Jones, who along with other international athletes will be allocated to a city team for the competition, is looking forward to the unique team format and quality fields on offer at the ground breaking competition:

“It’s going to be great competing at Super8 in Glasgow and it’s an honour to be invited as one of the ‘overseas’ competitors. The last time I competed in Glasgow was earlier this year at the Aviva International Match where the USA Team finished second to the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team and I really enjoyed the experience,” she said.

“The crowd was brilliant – really enthusiastic and energetic and I hope Glasgow’s athletics fans enjoy Super8 as it’s a fantastic competition for spectators. I think the City Vs City format will encourage some healthy rivalry between the British athletes and encourage people from different areas of Britain to really get behind their respective home-town teams.

“Super 8 will also provide me with a great way to hone my preparations ahead of the Aviva British Grand Prix, which is taking place just three days afterwards at Gateshead International Stadium. It’s fantastic that the Diamond League is coming to Britain as it guarantees the fans more head to heads among the best athletes in the world. I’ve never competed in Gateshead before but I’ve been told the crowd is amazing, cheering you on from start to finish! I’m looking forward to racing there and soaking up the atmosphere.”

Top athletes already confirmed for the competition include current World 800m bronze medallist Jenny Meadows, and Olympic 400m hurdles bronze medallist Tasha Danvers.

Tickets cost £5 for adults, £1 for concessions and £8 for a family ticket of 2 adults and 2 children.
