World Class Women's 60m Line Up Announced For Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix

29 December 2014

Great Britain’s European and Commonwealth 200m silver medallist Jodie Williams (coach: Christine Bowmaker) and world junior 100m champion Dina Asher-Smith (John Blackie) have confirmed that they will take on some of the world’s best sprinters over 60m at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday 21 February.

The duo will line up at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena alongside British teammate Asha Philip (Steve Fudge), the USA’s three-time world champion Carmelita Jeter and Murielle Ahouré of the Ivory Coast, who won the 60m at both the 2013 and 2014 Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix.

19 year old Asher-Smith, who broke the British junior 100m record with 11.14 in July, is looking forward to being part of a truly world-class line up.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to competing at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix. It’s a very knowledgeable crowd, they always know when there’s a good performance and recognise it so I’m really excited.

“I’m quite shocked but really happy with last year. I had a good indoor season, I became joint European junior 60m record holder and then got the British junior 200m record; hopefully 2015 will be just as good.”

Williams won 200m silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer before going on to clinch silver over the same distance at the European Championships in Zurich, where she was also part of the gold medal winning GB & NI women’s 4x100m relay team.

Williams said: “I love competing in front of big crowds on home soil and it will be great to be a part of this race. 2014 was a fantastic year for me and I hope that I can run well at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix to set me up for another good outdoor season next summer.”

Jeter, the second fastest woman of all time over 100m, said: “The Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix is one of the world’s best indoor meets and I’m looking forward to testing myself ahead of another important outdoor season where I’ll be looking for another World Championships medal.”

Double Olympic, world and European champion Mo Farah (Alberto Salazar) and European 100m champion James Dasaolu (Steve Fudge) have already confirmed that they will compete at the 2015 Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix.
