World ClassJumps Conference Postponed

16 September 2008

With regret for any inconvenience UK Athletics has postponed the Jumps Conference provisionally planned for the first weekend of October, at Loughborough University.

A revised date has been fixed, at Loughborough on 8 & 9 November, with booking forms to be available early next week.

UKA are now pleased to announce that American World Record Holder, in the Long Jump, Mike Powell will be presenting to the Conference. He has expressed a great enthusiasm for the event and what it can offer.

"I am excited to be a part of the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund World Class Jumps Conference in November.  I have had a long personal association with the Pickering family dating back to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic games, where my summer job while a student/athlete at UCLA was acting as a driver for the BBC and its commentary team."

Working in partnership with the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund the sport remains focused on offering a World Class opportunity in each Jumps event area but due to the late season finish and subsequent availability it was felt necessary and more effective to postpone and ensure our intended speakers and guests are all available.

The Conference shall feature long jump and high jump programmes on one day, and triple jump and pole vault on the other, to allow coaches to attend multiple presentations.  In addition, some of our most talented young athletes and their coaches will also be invited to attend a special one day clinic which will allow them to work personally under the guidance of the invited coaches.

Final details for a full weekend of presentations and practical demonstrations by the World’s very best exponents are being confirmed and more news will follow shortly.

Email conferences@ukathletics.org.uk  to confirm your interest for Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 November 2008and UKA will send out a booking form.

Further details shall be released via the UKA Website.
