World Record For Bushell

18 June 2009

Paralympic Silver Medallist Mickey Bushell (Birchfield Harriers) set a new World Record in the T53 100m this afternoon at the Ibach Track Meeting in Switzerland.

Bushell crossed the line in a time of 14.69 at the meeting which forms part of the Swiss Wheelchair Racing Series.

His performance over the sprint distance was enough to take the existing record from Krungget Pichet of Thailand, set in 2007.

Bushell said: "I’m really happy. I wasn’t nervous, I just wanted to get a good time.

"The start was OK, then it picked up and I lost the guy that was still with me at 50m to go. It was a high standard of competition and a fast track.

"I have reached past my goals for this year- I didn’t expect to get that time and break the record so that’s a bonus."

The Telford born athlete, who will also race in the 800m and 200m to race this evening, added: "To have just broken a World Record and race again this evening is great- I’m feeling extra confidence going into the next races."
