YODO Applications

25 June 2009

Once again the opportunity is available for a young person to take a pivotal role in the development of young officials in athletics.

The Young Officials Development Officer (YODO) post is designed to drive up numbers of young people participating within the officials work force. The Youth Sport Trust is driving the scheme seeking to address the need for a formalised structure and to create a new generation and everlasting legacy of trained and experienced young people as sports officials across different sports.

Outgoing YODO, Gemma Werret who has held the post since last year said:

“I have immensely enjoyed being a YODO and feel like it has given me the opportunity to work within a sport that I am very passionate about through a different perspective,” she said.

“As a graduate it has given me an opportunity to work with a governing body of sport and see what work needs to be done for athletics meetings in particular to go ahead.

I feel that the Young Officials Project is very worthwhile and would encourage anybody with a passion for athletics to become involved – as it offers an alternative entry into sport at any level.

The role is a voluntary post but the officer will be able to claim up to £6400 in expenses and benefit from many development opportunities that will arise during the year.

The closing date has been extended to Wednesday 1st July 2009
