YOUNG DIPS UP 11 SECONDS AGAIN AT THE WPA GP DUBAI

The World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai came to an end with five British athletes in action.

Paralympic and European champion Thomas Young (Joe McDonnell, Charnwood) continued his excellent form as he won the men’s T38 100m race and was quickest overall with a time of 10.99 (0.6).

It is only the second time he has dipped up 11 seconds during his career, so it is another significant moment for the 21-year-old.

In another T38 race, Para Futures Academy athlete Alexander Thomson (Chris Baillie, Victoria Park City of Glasgow) posted a time of 11.87 (1.0) to win his race and finish fifth fastest overall.

Danny Sidbury (Christine Parsloe) completed an excellent week in Dubai with a big personal best in the men’s T54 5000m in a race won in a world record by Switzerland’s Marcel Hug.

The Sutton and District athlete raced smartly to come home in third position in a time of 10:01.19, an improvement from 10:17.41 which he set in 2019. Hug lowered the world record to 9:32.32.

Eve Walsh-Dann (Roger Sexton, North Down) and Kadeena Cox (Joe McDonnell, Sale Harriers Manchester) were both in action in the women’s T38 100m, clocking times of 14.05 (-0.2) and 14.48 respectively as they placed third and fourth in the race overall.

The race was won by Colombia’s Darian Fais Jimenez Sanchez in a time of 12.92.
