Building on the success of previous Young Leaders’ Camps, UKA are once again working with England Netball and Gymnastics England to offer 150 16-19 year olds the opportunity to attend a four day residential camp where they will get the chance to develop their leadership and volunteering skills alongside other like-minded individuals.

The camp – which will run from Sunday 14 August – Wednesday 17 August 2011 and is completely free of charge – will take place at Bradfield College in Berkshire and participants will focus on the development of leadership skills through sport while participating in a range of practical and theory based sessions.

The event will be run by professional staff from netball, gymnastics and athletics with a programme that offers a range of workshops including club management, personal development planning, activity leadership, officiating, coaching and event management. There will also be time built in for relaxation and evening social activities, coordinated by trained staff.

To be eligible to apply, you will ideally meet the following criteria:

• 16-19 yrs old at the time of the camp

• Actively volunteering in athletics within a club, school or college

• Have obtained a Coaching or Officiating award

• Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to developing your skills and experience

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our most dedicated young volunteers from across the UK to attend the Camp and develop their skills," said Stuart Attwell, UKA’s Senior Coordinator for Competitions.

"Over 140 athletics leaders have benefited from the experience over the past three years and we are keen for this to continue in 2011.

"Not only is this a key aspect of the volunteer work that UKA are involved in, but it is also designed to help participants learn news skills to help them get the most from their volunteering and leadership in addition to making new friends."
