Young Officials Development Officer Post

2 June 2008

An opportunity has arisen for a young athletics enthusiast to put something back into the sport in a key role working with young officials

The Young Officials Development Officer (YODO) post is designed to drive up numbers of young people participating within the officials work force. The Youth Sport Trust is driving the scheme seeking to address the need for a  formalised structure for young people to enter officiating in sport.

Outgoing YODO, Jordan Fleary was full of enthusiasm for his experience in the role which he did whilst based at Loughborough:

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working as a YODO. I have worked at the same time, studying part-time at university and it has been a great opportunity for me to gain lots of useful experience in the working world before I graduate.

“The Young Officials Project has given me a rare chance to work within an NGB at an early stage in my career and I hope to return to work within this area in the future armed with this experience.

“I would recommend this opportunity to anyone who feels they would like to learn more about working within Athletics, as it really is a rare and worthwhile opportunity.

The role is a voluntary post but the officer will be able to claim up to £6400 in expenses and benefit from many development opportunities that will arise during the year.
