Young Officials Officer Sought For UKA

11 June 2010

Following on from two successful years of the Young Officials Project, UKA have extended a further opportunity to recruit a Young Officials Development Officer for the third year of the Young Officials Project.

The Project gives a full time volunteer an opportunity to work with UKA to develop and create opportunities for Young People to train and be deployed as Officials within athletics.  A joint venture between Youth Sport Trust and National Governing Bodies the unique role enables a young person the ability to develop key coordination skills and play a major role in the development of officiating in athletics.

Current YODO Rebecca Townsend has worked to develop the Level 1 Young Officials Schools licensing scheme as well as working with schools in Leeds to develop an athletics festival where level 1 young officials courses are delivered to their students.

She has also helped develop the concept of a Young person’s advisory group for UKA.

UKA Senior Officials Coordinator Paula Gowing said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer this role and opportunity to a young person in athletics for the third consecutive year.

“Rebecca has really made this role her own in the last 12 months and we’re keen to see how another YODO can further develop the ideas she has brought forward and add other input to the young officiating landcape.”

The placement is for 40 weeks from September – June and volunteer expenses of up to £60 per week for travel and subsistence and up to £4000 towards accommodation expenses can be claimed.
