Youngster Ujah Third At Stockholm Diamond League

21 August 2014

Chijindu Ujah (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo) was the pick of the Brits in Stockholm on Thursday evening as he raced to a third place finish in a strong 100m field.

Lining up with fellow countryman and European Championship bronze medallist Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (Rana Reider), Ujah wasn’t phased by a false start, running a good race to clock 10.10 in less than ideal conditions. This was a mature run by the nineteen year old, to get the better of some quality athletes, including Aikines-Aryeetey who finished fifth in 10.20.

The pair will now return to the UK for the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday, and with both men in good form, the 100m at the Alexander Stadium could be their’s for the taking.

Also heading to Birmingham is Laura Muir (Andy Young), who bounced back from disappointment at both the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships with a terrific sixth place finish. Her time of 4.04.71 wasn’t as quick as the 4.00.07 she ran in Paris, but the race as a whole was much slower.

The quality of her run can be outlined by the fact she beat the European Championship silver and bronze medallists Abeba Aregawi and Laura Weightman (Steve Cram) who were tenth and fourteenth respectively. Muir will now run over 800m at the Alexander Stadium this weekend.

A handful of Diamond category tickets are still available for the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday and they can be purchased here.
