Leeds

Birmingham

Who can apply?

You need to be between 11 and 18 years old and keen to try a new challenge!

Nominations for attending one of our trial days will come directly from high schools within the target catchment areas. Your PE teacher or School Games Manager will let you know if you’ve been invited.

Our team of UK Athletics staff will be communicating details of the trial days to all the high schools within the area. They may even come along to your school to coach some athletics and tell you all about the sport.

When will I find out?

Schools will be invited to send nominations for the trial days by the end of May 2024. Confirmation of a trial day place will then be sent to all attendees shortly afterwards.

What if my school isn’t in the area?

We’ve identified these cities because they offer suitable facilities, coaches and training environments within the local community for athletes to get to regularly which saves time and money on travelling. If you’re still really keen to try out but aren’t close to one of the three facilities and you’re still prepared to travel weekly to meet with leading coaches, then please get in touch at S2S@britishathletics.org.uk

What happens at the trial day?

We’ll have lots of challenges for you to try out and test your speed, agility and power. You can meet and hear from some of the best British track and field athletes, have your fitness challenged by some of the best coaches in the country and find out all about athletics clubs and events going on all the time in your area.

Athletes with a disability can find out all about the Paralympic system and how athletics is the leading para sport in the UK and the world.

What happens after a trial day?

A small group of attendees will be selected to be part of the Street 2 Stadium Academy for 2024 based on how well they performed on the trial day and the behaviours they displayed, especially around working hard and not giving up.

What is the S2S Academy?

The S2S Academy is a fast-tracking development programme running from May 2024 to December 2024 and will provide weekly training sessions in conjunction with a local athletics club during term-time run by top coaches. There will be some competitions along the way too to teach athletes all about competitions and how to do the best they can in them. All the athletes will also be offered the opportunity to apply for a small amount of additional support to help out with the little things that can make a big difference such as travel expenses and kit.

What happens when the Academy comes to an end in December 2024?

After the programme comes to an end in December 2024 the local athletics club the athletes have been training with will take over the lead for their development. For any of the athletes who’ve reached a really good standard within that time, it’s possible they might be selected for one of the British Athletics Development Squads which is the next step in preparing for competition on a world stage
