The cross country season is still gathering momentum with athletes competing domestically and overseas ahead of the McCain Liverpool Cross Challenge incorporating the European Cross Country Trials next weekend (Saturday 27 November). 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Amora-Seixal, Portugal, November 21

Scott Overall (coach: Robert Chapman) won the 21st XX Corta Mato Cidade De Amora – Cross International in Portugal. The Blackheath & Bromley athlete timed 24:56 to win by one second from Portugal’s Ricardo Mateus (24:57) and Kenyan Peter Kiplagat (24:59).

BMC/Mike Sully Championships, Bristol, November 21

Junior athletes dominated the men’s race with English National cross-country runner-up Tom Curr (coach: Chris Frapwell) winning the 4km race in a time of 12:10 with Josh Gorecki runner-up in 12:18.

The women’s race was a closer affair with just four seconds covering the top three.

Kerry Harty (coach: Richard Rodgers) won in a time of 13:58 from fellow Windsor athlete Sophie Morris who timed 14:01, followed by Imogen Ainsworth (coach: Keith Brackstone) in third (14:02).

Brooks Brighton 10km, November 21

Louise Damen won the women’s race in a personal best of 33:14 to go tenth in the McCain Power of Ten rankings; she beat a quality field including Olympic marathoner Liz Yelling who finished second on her return from injury (33:42).
