2024 – 2026 Rule Updates after 1 April 2024 (Updated 20/03/2025)
Age Group Changes
This July, the UKA Board unanimously approved the recommendations in a paper from the Rules Advisory Group in relation to changes in the UKA Rules for Competition relating to competition age groups that will come into effect on 1st April 2026.
The rationale for submitting a paper early to the Board was to give confidence to coaches, athletes and competition providers in relation to what the new Rule Book will contain. The recommendations covered three broad themes:
- The approval of the alignment of the competition year for Track and Field, Road and Cross Country competitions. The competition year for these disciplines will run from 1st October to 30th September in future years.
- The recommendation that the current constraints imposed on athletes in odd age groups will transfer up to athletes in even age groups (i.e. the restrictions on competition for current under 13s will apply to under 14s).
- The approval of the technical specifications for track and field events, and specifically hurdles, steeplechase and throwing implements.
A detailed account of the changes can be accessed via this link
It is stressed that the new rules will not come into effect until the 1st April 2026. However, early sight of the agreed proposals will assist the sport over the transition period.
The Home Country Athletics Federations will provide additional guidance on their respective websites.
